Crocodile Tears traces the environmental histories and imagined futures of Singapore through the figure of the saltwater crocodile. Crocodiles, once revered and sharing estuaries, became hunted beasts, their skins turned into luxury goods as Singapore transformed from natural habitats to colonial port and urban landscape. Buaya’s grief is a force of ecological reckoning over Singapore’s damaged lands, displaced communities, and growth-by-fill development.
